Ringlandschaft mit Bierstrom – ein Wagner-Areal
The composer and installation artist Georg Nussbaumer has been particularly focused on the works of Richard Wagner for many years. In his projects, he utilizes the resources of the performing and visual arts to dissect the rich history of Wagnerian sounds and imagery and translate them into a contemporary language.
Nussbaumer has created his own individual world of contemporary music theatre. Following large-scale music theatre performances devoted to Tristan, Lohengrin and Parsifal, his current project focuses on the genuine heavyweight of Wagner’s theatre: the Ring des Nibelungen. The original operas are omnipresent in Nussbaumer’s Ringlandschaft, as are Wagner’s mythological sources and the ideologically burdened history of his reception. The dimension of Nussbaumer’s project is on a par with those of the master of Bayreuth: the performance lasts sixteen hours. The entry ticket entitles the holder to an hourly bottle of beer as a ‘amnesiac potion’.
