Hardcore 3

Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop2012

With Hardcore 3, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop presents an analytical continuation of the works Hardcore (2007) and Hardcore 2 (2010).

Hardcore presents the 'hard core' of Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop: the pure string formation. The main concept of this series lies in the work of French artist Aliénor Dauchez and explores the relationship of music to space, of the individual musician to the group, and of the audience to the ensemble. The different works, which seamlessly follow each other as a montage, are played from different positions, so that for the audience there is a constant change of closeness and distance to the musicians.

The stage is transformed into a black walled space, in the center of which the audience is placed. The musicians move in an elliptical orbit around the audience. The musical mesh and the spatial constellations lead the audience through a variety of situations. The audience has to shift their attention from side to side for each piece played, never knowing from which direction the following sound will come. The overall effect of the piece is carried by the alternating moments of intense proximity and elimination of the sounds, as well as a constantly changing perspective of each listener.

Hardcore 3 is the third version of Aliénor Dauchez's ongoing exploration of the theatrical possibilities of music - using nothing but the musicians' bodies, sounds and light effects.

With Hardcore 3, Kaleidoskop continues its work with new concert forms. The main features of the repertoire and its composition of the ensemble form the core of Hardcore 3: baroque music meets contemporary music, chamber music formations and larger ensemble pieces alternate. Symphonies by Carl Philipp Emmanuel and Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, contemporary works by Ryoji Ikeda and Claude Vivier, Jennifer Walshe and James Dillon can be heard.
