Die Kinder über dem Informationsmeer
Whether through rating platforms or comment sections, the internet presents an open invitation for users to share their unasked-for, anonymous opinions on most everything. This phenomenon has influenced the music world as well, and is beginning to drown out the voices of traditional classical critics. Thomas Meadowcroft’s new piece Die Kinder über dem Informationsmeer for children’s choir and string orchestra uses social media critiques of classical music as a framing device for the expectations that we hold for our digital future. The Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop parries with Schönberg’s classic Verklärte Nacht, in which a young couple seeks to start a nontraditional family, outside of the norms of societal expectations. The program is completed by an a-capella choir piece by William Byrd, Memento salutis actor.
