Atlas – Inseln der Utopie

Solistenensemble KaleidoskopSabrina Hölzer & José María Sánchez-Verdú2013

The ‘space’ – in this case the stunning gallery in the Herrenhausen gardens – is transformed into a type of ‘bowl’ containing utopias which change, overlap, are interdependent or antagonise each other.

The concept of utopia with its associations of freedom and self-determination is an ideal, political, social and spiritual entity bordered by walls or rules, but neither tangible nor mappable. Non-tangible spaces created through sound and light are created in the enormous gallery in which the audience can move freely and select their own perspective of the action – either wandering around or sitting or reclining at will. The Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop will be augmented by international soloists on Baroque instruments and the vocal roles undertaken by members of the Neue Vocalsolisten, one of the best ensembles of its kind worldwide. A new instrument, the auraphone with its fascinating sounds, is waiting to be discovered.
